Private Fostering Awareness Day 5th November 2025

Today, Wednesday 5th November 2025 is private fostering awareness day. CoramBAAF initiated an annual Private Fostering Awareness Day to raise awareness of this often overlooked group of children. A child who is cared for by someone who is not a close relative for more than 28 days is living in a private fostering arrangement. All local authorities have a responsibility to raise awareness of private fostering in their area.

Luton Council and Luton Safegarding Children Partnership are promoting the folowing activities and resources.

Private Fostering Awareness Week Luton

Wednesday 5th November marks the annual private fostering awareness day. We all have a duty to promote the safety and welfare of Luton children, including children living in private fostering arrangements. If somebody that you know is looking after (living with) somebody else’s child, who isn’t a close relative, for more than 28 days, this is called private fostering. It is important that the Council know about any children living in private fostering arrangements. This is not something to worry about, we are here to give support and make sure the child is safe.

We have attached our 7-minute briefing, please share this and have discussions with colleagues about any child who may be privately fostered.
